| About You | : | Smt. Ashoka Dhar (Nandy) is one of the Seniormost and one of the most talented female Dhrupadia's which India has produced so far. Born and brought up in a celestial musical nest in Calcutta. Smt. Dhar grows manifesting her keen interest in music particularly in ancient form of Indian Classical Music. From the year 1955 to 1962 she started taking her lessons in Kheyal under the able guidance of Late.Pt.J.V.S Rao of Vishnu Digambar Paluskar gharana.She achieved many diplomas including the Sangeet Bisharad in the year 1967 as a Poona gharana trainee.Then from 1968 she started training under the Great Dhrupad Maestro Padmabhusan Late.Ustad Nasir Aminuddin Dagarji in the (Guru Shishya Parampara Style). She along with her Guruji had performed at all the Major Indian Classical Conferences throught India and Abroad till 1998. In 1976 she got to sing by Guruji's side at the Shiraj Festival in Iran and from thereon Rome,India Festival at UK,France,Germany,USA and Italy.Smt.Dhar has been teaching Dhrupad at the London University(SOAS)and also in Amsterdam(Holland) since 2000 as a visiting Lecturer.Apart from being a well known teacher worldwide she also has performed in Various festivals in Europe,UK,USA,Middle East,South East Asia,Australia & Fiji Islands. |
