Published on Aug 8, 2012 Sitar - Ustad Vilayat Khan Raga Bhairavi in Malika Thumri Tabla -Pandit Shamta PrasadBhairavi is traditionally a morning Raga. Since all twelve notes in a scale are permissible in the raga, this allows him the freedom to move all over the notes displaying uncanny skills in making the choicest combinations to give delightful glimpses of various Ragas while still maintaining the basic character of Bhairavi! Ustadji begins with an Alap and delivers a performance full of lyrical expression in various moods. Later he switches to a Gat in faster temp in a rhythmic cycle of eight beats known as Kaharwa Taal. The most remarkable achievement of the this rendition is the novel idea of changing the scales while still maintaining the same notes and character of Raga Bhairavi.
